Last evening, the Hamilton Board of Education voted to authorize our community to vote in a “straw vote” or an advisory referendum, to determine if the Hamilton and Morrisville-Eaton School Districts should continue their analysis that could potentially end in a binding referendum vote that may merge the two districts.
Next week, the BOE will meet again to plan our next steps in the process. The date of the straw vote will be set and a 45 day notice will be given at that time. During that 45 day period the district, as well as Hamilton Community groups, will be hosting forums to discuss the merger study, answer questions regarding the pros and cons of the potential merger, and clarify any areas of uncertainty with the data.
Please visit my blog for timely information and additional details that we will make available to the Hamilton Community. We welcome any questions or comments that you would like to pose to the district by using the link above.
Attached, please find a study that was recently released by the New York State School Boards Association on school mergers. You can also find pertinent information on our website under the Community Merger Study link at www.hamiltoncentral.org.
