Recently, HCS invited parents in to discuss safety concerns, hear thoughts, and share our new procedures. At the recent Safety meeting and Board of Education meeting, parents requested that HCS reinstate the Student Resource Officer (SRO) that we had in the building in the recent past.
For those of you that aren't aware, HCS shared a New York State Trooper (SRO) with Morrisville-Eaton for a number of years. The cost of the SRO was paid for by New York State until the funding source dissipated.
Our SRO became a regular member of our school community. He was considered a trusted adult that would eat with our students, spend time in their classrooms, talked with them about meaningful things in their lives, and helped them understand the role of the police in the greater Hamilton Community.
The administration and the BOE listened to the requests of the parents and are actively looking for possible funding sources that may help us achieve this goal. We will include this request in the upcoming budget discussions and will work pro-actively to make this a reality. We’ll keep you posted as our budget process unfolds.
In the meantime, the Hamilton Police have been visiting our school on a regular basis. They are becoming familiar with our students, and our students are developing positive relationships with them. We wish to thank the Hamilton Police Department for being such a great neighbor.
